Anonymous, 1 hour agoApple is just very very slow at it. And no, your iPhone XR can’t do that. It’s old… moreNo, my iPhone XR, the “old” and “outdated” displays me full display when I tap it. Or I can just invoke the display with voice and don’t even have to physically touch it.

People seem to greatly under appreciate Motorola’s approach, which in my opinion is the very best out there really.
Peek display, or Shake/Approach to show notifications.

That way, it only turns on when you need it to and stays off when you don’t.

Yes, Motorola is only my 2nd best. I prefer several of it’s implementations even to my no 1 favorite, the Sony Xperias.

Whackcar, 1 hour agoStop making excuses for Apple for being late to everything. Admit it that they’re slow to… moreWhat excuses lol? AOD is the LAST thing I’d want or expect from any phone. Especially since I have a smartwatch so all the info is instantly fed to me, meaning AOD literally has no purpose at all. And even if I didn’t have smartwatch, it wouldn’t change anything really.

LoneOwl, 30 minutes agoLosing 2% per hour is almost like 17-20% per day just from AoD. Thats actually a lot if you… moreMy s22+ AoD hardly uses any battery. It’s reporting 3.5% a day (I have it on schedule 7am – 8pm), so around ~0.3% an hour.

Find it useful for time, battery % and notifications instead of having to light up thr full display (which probably uses more battery)

I guess the percentage is dependent on size of battery of the device, but with the low battery usage I’m happy with it.

Thats actually a lot if you combine it with the fact that people charge their phone before the battery reaches 20-25%. And not only that but now we have 120hz displays that also consume more battery (even worse if we include 5G), and yeah no wonder why smartphones these days need charging every day.

AoD is nice to have but its mostly needed in smartwatches.

Whackcar, 1 hour agoStop making excuses for Apple for being late to everything. Admit it that they’re slow to… moreAndroid has AOD but how many people use to turn it on? AOD isn’t a must have feature if not apple would have implemented it sooner and even if they are late at it, it will definitely be better than whatever Android OEM has been doing.

I use a Samsung and have it turned of

Here we go again..

They could have added AOD since the iPhone X but they didn’t.
I don’t think a company as big as Apple can’t do it. I just thought they “don’t want to”. I don’t know why. Maybe because it’s not that important? It could be.

Is there any reason to buy Android flagship phone over iPhone after this? iPhone just keeps getting better and better.

It is shocking that the fruit logo company is so incompetent as to not have AOD on its fancy-shmancy, exorbitantly priced phones. Then again, why provide additional functionality, when there are ignorant snobs willing to pay more for less?

SShock, 2 hours agoJust because someone has it first doesn’t mean it’s bets or even good. Bunch of Andrew… more“Bunch of Android phones have horrible AOD which drains tons of power or still requires screen touch to activate it and then goes away after 10 seconds. My iPhone XR can do that without any AOD”

What you’re talking about is called Ambient Display and not AOD. Learn the difference first

SShock, 2 hours agoYeah, because watch with a blank face totally doesn’t look stupid and useless, not to men… moreApple is just very very slow at it.
And no, your iPhone XR can’t do that. It’s ancient by now

SShock, 2 hours agoJust because someone has it first doesn’t mean it’s bets or even good. Bunch of Andrew… moreStop making excuses for Apple for being late to everything. Admit it that they’re slow to adopt new features, because that’s an undeniable fact at this point.

Also, you’re absolutely wrong about AoD consuming too much battery. Even back in 2016, phones consumed around 2% per hour on AoD, and that number has halved over the years due to large batteries in recent phones.

My only wish is they do away with notch then I can be a fan

SShock, 2 hours agoJust because someone has it first doesn’t mean it’s bets or even good. Bunch of Andrew… moreSorry mr ifanboy i have lg g8s and i use always on display and it last ne a day and just think what will happen if i had v60 or g8x it will last more than a day next time when u do marketing for apple ask them to pay lol

?

Lol now they will gove AOD a new name say it as they r the first to introduce and apple fans will take care of marketing it

SShock, 2 hours agoJust because someone has it first doesn’t mean it’s bets or even good. Bunch of Andrew… moreLol. I have a Xiaomi 9T Pro. It has an AOD. I do not need to touch to activate that. Also, my battery life is better than any Iphone.

Whackcar, 2 hours agoAndroids have had it since at least 2016 (possibly even before then, but i can’t remember… moreJust because someone has it first doesn’t mean it’s bets or even good. Point of good AOD is that it’s actually always on and doesn’t drain any noticeable power. I’d prefer the return of programmable notification LED light, but I guess they can do this with AOD now…
